IN LOVING MEMORY
Dorothy Mae Moore was born on January 11, 1934 to Lester and Laura Lewis in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was the oldest of 10 brothers and sisters, Ivy Louise, Lester jr.
“Punie”, Joe, Barbara, Albert, Jimmy, June, Janice and Jerry. From a very young age,
Dorothy learned and embraced the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings like a little mom and baby sitter. She would make them lunch as they all sat under their home fireplace playing games. All while both parents worked outside the home, her father a jazz musician and mom a seamstress. Eventually, the family migrated to California and settled in the Los Angeles area. Dorothy later met the love of her life Samuel Moore; they married on February 26,1949 in Yuma, Arizona. The Moores lived in Los Angeles and raised 8
children: Sammy jr, Glen, Linda, Phillip, Roger, Bruce, Esther and David. Dorothy was a devoted loving stay at home mom who found great joy in caring for her husband and children and made sure they didn’t want for anything, she loved them dearly. Dorothy’s favorite pastimes were listening to her music “oldies,” the love of music came from her dad, then cooking and baking, which she learned from her mother and grandmother. Boy could she cook she was known for her “Gumbo” and her mouthwatering “Sweet Potato Pies” and Coconut Cakes these were specialties of hers no one could resist! Dorothy learned bible truths at just 11 years old attending congregation meetings with her
aunt Lilian, and cousins Rena and Baby Sis. She dedicated her life to Jehovah in July of 1952 at 15 years old alongside Sam her husband; they were both baptized at Cabrillo Beach in the ocean! Dorothy lived a full life of faithful service to Jehovah. In 1992,
Dorothy and Sam moved to Brownsville, Texas where Sam served as an elder for 7 years. While living there they enjoyed raising cattle, chickens, and fish. Their pond was stocked with catfish and trout, it became a gathering for the friends to come fish. In 1996 they moved back to California to Palmdale where they endeared themselves to many, many new friends in Jehovah’s organization. In 2013 Dorothy lost the love of her life Sam, she then decided to move to the Inland Empire area Menifee in 2018 to be closer to her immediate family. Despite all of life's challenges Dorothy never stopped serving Jehovah not once. Even at 91 years old, she zealously did her ministry on zoom every Tuesday through Saturday and attended all of her meetings in person at the Kingdom Hall, it
didn’t matter the weather she was going. She remained vibrant just so full of life, always smiling and laughing down to her last day. Dorothy leaves all of us with such a good example to follow.
Sadly, Sammy, Linda, David, Roger, Bruce and Phillip and husband Sam preceded Dorothy in death.
Dorothy leaves her daughter Esther and son Glen, 12 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews not to mention a multitude of
friends who love and serve Jehovah. Dorothy will definitely be missed by all! We look ahead to the day we joyfully see her in the Paradise new world to come.
